Handwoven Dhalapathar Green Red Cotton Saree


Dhalapathar… More than century old technique from Dhalapathar village, Khurdha. Dhalapathar is a small village in Khurda district of Odisha. Like several other places in Odisha, this place too has its weaving style. The weavers of dhalapathar called “Rangani”. They weave a rare extra weft shedding and picking technique without the use of dobby, jaala or jacquard. The extra weft design is done with the help of chairis. A rare weave not found in any other traditional weaving technique. For the last few decades, the weavers were busy making curtains until recently when a few designers intervened. The Dhalapathar Saree of KusumKapta, Nahati and Akata aresmooth textured premium cotton sarees with similar inspirations as the Parda and are often worn as wedding saree in many regions of Odisha.

In an attempt to revive and give a contemporary touch to the dying Odissa handloom tradition, this saree has been painstakingly hand-woven using Dhalapathar technique with intricate patterns and colours inspired from our beautiful rural landscapes.
