Script sarees are not a regular kind weave of Odisha. But when we discussed and made the saree the first person took the saree was non other than Alka Raghuvanshi. In her memory we are again creating the sarees she took very fondly. One of them was this beautiful script saree.
The sloka on the body described 4 types of women character. Our scriptures divide women into four categories as per their physical, attributes, mental attitudes and spiritual inclinations- Sankhini, Hastini, chitrni and of course, the most cherished, Padmini. This is how these classes have been comprehensively describes by Labdhodaya in his Padmini Charitra Choupai. “Padmini has the fragrance of a lotus and Chitrani that of a folower. A Hansini smells like fish and Sankhini carries a foul smell about her.”
It’s a 4/4 ply pure mulberry sambalpuri silk saree. A beautiful red palla which pictures we will not be sharing. And a red blouse with rudraksha buti and ikat on the border. The blouse I am wearing in the picture is a different blouse. Blouse with the saree is plain with border. It takes a lot of time and effort to make this master piece.
