White Red Maroon Hand-woven Kotpad Cotton Saree


Kotpad handloomis a vegetable-dyed fabric woven by the tribal weavers of the Mirgan community of Kotpad village in Koraput district, Odisha, India. The natural dye is manufactured out of the Aul tree grown in this area. Since, it is prepared out of natural resources which are non-toxic and hence non-harmful to the skin. The powerful and vibrant colours ranging from rust and black used to weave this saree depend on the age of the root bark and the proportion of the dye used and is obtained with the addition of harikari or sulphate of iron. The motifs woven on the body and pallu reflects the cross cultural linkage of the area. These motifs are developed by the extra weft technique. Solid border effect of the saree is brought up on which pig by pig insertion of thread by use of multi shuttle by interlocking method. This saree comes attached with a matching blouse piece.

Handwoven Kotpad cotton saree is woven by using white and red maroon colour naturally dyed yarns. Small fish and stars butis are woven on the saree body by using extra threads and temple design are woven on the saree border by using multiple shuttle interlocking technique. The saree pallu is woven by traditional butis stripes with extra threads. This saree comes with attached maroon  plain blouse piece.
